Inkling privacy
A little space. Just yours.
Inkling stores your note library on your Mac. Sync between your Macs is optional and uses your own iCloud. We don’t run an Inkling account service or collect analytics about what you write.

Your notes and backups
Notes, attachments, version history, and daily database backups are stored locally in your user Library. Exported files go to the location you choose. Your Mac’s own backup or cloud-folder settings may separately copy those files.
iCloud sync
iCloud sync is optional and stays off until you turn it on. While it is on, your notes, attachments, and custom templates are stored in your private iCloud database, which Apple provides, so that your other Macs signed in to the same Apple Account can read them. That data counts toward your iCloud storage and is handled under Apple’s terms. Everyday Mac Tools cannot read it and runs no server that receives it.
Note text is stored in CloudKit’s encrypted fields. If you use Apple’s Advanced Data Protection, it is end-to-end encrypted, so only your own devices can read it. Each note also records the name of the Mac that last changed it, so a conflicting edit can be labelled. Version history, settings, and backups stay on each Mac.
Turning sync off stops further uploads. To remove what is already stored, delete Inkling’s data in your iCloud settings; the notes on your Macs are not affected.
Licence activation
Purchases are processed by Dodo Payments. To activate or validate your licence, Inkling sends your licence key and activation information to Dodo Payments. Activation also sends your Mac’s device name. Licence credentials and the trial start time are stored locally, including in the macOS Keychain.
Updates and web links
Inkling checks an update feed on everydaymactools.com. When you capture a web URL from the clipboard, the app requests that web address to fetch its page title. These connections reveal ordinary network information, including your IP address, to the destination service. Your note library is not sent over them.
This website
This Inkling website uses no analytics trackers or advertising cookies. Its fonts and images are served from Everyday Mac Tools. Our web server may keep standard access and error logs. Checkout takes you to Dodo Payments, whose own privacy terms apply.
Screen sharing
Inkling includes an option to hide its windows from supported screen-capture and sharing methods. This is a convenience setting, not encryption or a guarantee against every capture method.
